Central Ohio Diabetes Association

Founded by a group of local physicians, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association has provided service to the Central Ohio community for forty-seven years. The agency is not affiliated with a national organization. It is a local not for profit 501(C)3, private agency with a direct service focus serving Franklin County and 10 outlying counties. There is no other community-based organization with a staff of Certified Diabetes Educators, nurses, dietitians and social workers providing direct services to local families.


Mission Statement

One in ten people in our community will develop diabetes. The Central Ohio Diabetes Association helps Central Ohioans living with diabetes detect their condition, prevent onset and complications, and learn to live well with the challenge of diabetes.
The Central Ohio Diabetes Association provides the following services to all individuals, regardless of ability to pay:
• Diabetes and nutrition education
• Community detection program to identify undetected or uncontrolled diabetes
• Camp and youth programs
• Community outreach programs to high-risk populations
• Financial resources information and emotional support programs


How is the Central Ohio Diabetes Association Unique?


• The Central Ohio Diabetes Association is the only community-based organization providing diabetes education services provided by a staff of Certified Diabetes Educators, nurses, dietitians and licensed social workers to all individuals regardless of ability to pay.
• The agency offers one of only a few American Diabetes Association Recognized diabetes education programs in Central Ohio.
• Over 70% of clients counseled are unable to pay for education services rendered; the camp program provides financial aid to 50% of campers.
• The agency works closely with the American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The American Diabetes Association works in the arenas of public policy/advocacy, public awareness, research funding and public education. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation raises money to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. The agency works closely with the local affiliates of ADA and JDRF to avoid duplication of service, to build collaborative programs and to ensure efficient use of resources.
• The agency serves more than 32,000 people annually through extensive outreach efforts to special populations and underserved communities.
• One hundred percent of the funding comes from this community and remains in this community to provide services to local people.
