Central Ohioans Raise $77,000 for Final Swim/Walk for Diabetes!
In late February and early March, the Central Ohio community took to the water and track once again to support the Central Ohio Diabetes Association Swim/Walk for Diabetes. We thank the Central Ohio community for choosing to support the Final Swim/Walk for Diabetes which raised over $77,000 for our agency’s services.
Seven Central Ohio businesses joined forces in the Business Swim component of this event and raised a significant amount as well. All the money raised in Central Ohio stays in Central Ohio to provide much needed services.
For 47 years, our organization has been dedicated to reducing diabetes-related death and disability in our community. We provide services to all Central Ohioans with diabetes, regardless of ability to pay. Over 65% of our clients are unable to pay for services; over 50% of children who attend our diabetes camp program need financial assistance. We screen over 20,000 people a year for diabetes.
There is a desperate need for diabetes detection and education programs for uninsured and low-income people – and for more wellness and lifestyle management programs to prevent diabetes. We are working hard to deliver more community-based and culturally competent services to meet the skyrocketing need in vulnerable populations.
By participating in and supporting the Swim/Walk for Diabetes, you are helping Central Ohioans in your community, your neighborhood, and perhaps even your family to take control of their diabetes, reduce complications and learn to live well with the challenge of diabetes. Thank you for your generosity!
Thank you, Central Ohio!
