Detection & Outreach

Description: Data Entry Volunteer
Schedule: Regular: weekly or monthly
Hours: once a week 2-4 hours and more hours in the summer
Location: Central Ohio Diabetes Association
Requirements: Basic computer knowledge, enter data entry into the database

Reports to: Director of Detection and Outreach
Description: Blood Sugar Screening Volunteer
Schedule: Occasional
Hours: Varies/As Needed and Mon 1pm-7pm & Tues. 10am-2pm
Location: Columbus Public Health-Mon. & Central Ohio Diabetes Association-Tues.
Duties/Requirements: Good
communication & computer skills, organized, detailed oriented and
able to multi-task, Must be a self starter and team player, friendly,
have reliable transportation to agency and screening sites, commit to @
least 8 hours over 3 months for detection screening and/or follow up
activities, willing to participate in a variety of setting and outdoor
events (in extreme weather), complete 2 hours of training

Description: Bi-lingual Detection Volunteer
Schedule: Occasional
Hours: Varies/As Needed and Mon 1pm-7pm & Tues. 10am-2pm
Location: Central Ohio Diabetes Association/Central Ohio & Surrounding Areas
Duties/Requirements: Fluent
in Spanish, good communication & computer skills, organized,
detailed oriented and able to multi-task, Must be a self starter and

Mailings and Office Work
Description: Main Office Assistant Volunteer
Schedule: Regular: weekly
Hours: 10am-2pm or 1pm-4pm (hours can vary)
Location: Central Ohio Diabetes Association
Duties/Requirements: Computer
Skills & knowledge of office equipment(fax, postage machine,
copier), data entry, answering the phone or making calls, preparing
mailings(copying documents & putting postage on envelopes) making
general information packets, binding camp notebooks, have a pleasant
voice
Education: High School Diploma

Description: Nutrition Office Assistant
Schedule: Occasional
Hours: 2 to 3 times week for 1 hour

community, and other resources that can be used to benefit the agency,
locate former Board Members(by data base, internet or telephone),
research archives, possess computer skills, organizational, verbal, and

Description: Volunteer Newsletter Coordinator
Schedule: Occasional

Location: Central Ohio Diabetes Association
Duties/Requirements: Creative,
with some experience in newsletter design (or willing to learn), design
and publishes quarterly newsletter for volunteers at agency, gather
material from internal and external sources, writes original material,
design and formats newsletter, distributes newsletter via USPS and
e-mail

Description: Speakers Bureau Volunteer
Schedule: Regular: Weekly

Duties/Requirements: Develop and coordinate Speakers’ Bureau to
connect agency to community requests for public speakers, develop list
of topics commonly requested by public, recruit and train speakers to
fulfill community request for speakers, schedule speakers per community
requests, and evaluate speakers per community organizations

Description: Support Group Facilitator Volunteer
Schedule: Regular: Monthly

Location: Central Ohio Diabetes Association & various locations
Duties/Requirements: Coordinate
a diabetes support group designed to educate and support members, plan
and implement meetings/topic ideas, have effective communications
skills to address public and professional audiences and the media,
keeping the group active, networking and organizational skills,
publicize the group/meetings and facilitate an environment conducive to
group sharing, and the ability to work with a diverse populations, must
be team player

Description: Nutrition Education - Dietitian Volunteer

Location: Near Eastside Healthy Lifestyle Center & other community forums once in a while
Duties/Requirements: Providing
accurate information and answers to those who have diabetes, represent
the profession at the highest standard, provide presentations that
engage the audience whether 1 person or 20. Develop
and provide an interesting, informative presentation for audience and
must be a R.D. or L.D. who has practiced in the profession
Education: B.S. in Dietetics or Nutrition. Must be registered licensed R.D.

Special Events
Description: Social Services Event Volunteer
Schedule: Occasional

Location: Central Ohio Diabetes Association and various locations
Duties/Requirements: Assist with events and activities offered periodically through Social Services Program. Help
with games, arts, snacks, and crafts, education sessions for youth and
parents, setting up and cleaning up, and respecting the confidentiality
of families attending events

Description: Volunteer Luncheon Coordinator

Duties/Requirements: Event
planning experience helpful to coordinate annual Volunteer Recognition
Luncheon, plans location, menu, and programs for the luncheon, sends
out invitations, works with staff to develop Volunteer Awards.

Description: Day Camp Volunteer/Counselor

Duties/Requirements:
Provide leadership and guidance to a group of 3-5 campers based on the
philosophy and objectives of the Central Ohio Diabetes Association Camp
Program. Enthusiastic participation in general
camp program. Interpret and implement camp rules, safety and health
policies, assist nurses in diabetes management and education of each
individual camper, encourage and support each camper in all camp
activities and with their diabetes control. Assist in implementing
quality programs for campers, promote through activity involvement and
program participation, group camaraderie and individual growth and
development, attend and participate in all orientation sessions and
staff meetings.
